Stefano Varrella

Stefano Varrella holds a PhD in Life and Biomolecular Sciences and conducts research in microbial and molecular ecology, focusing on the diversity and ecological role of marine microorganisms (i.e., prokaryotes and fungi) in deep-sea ecosystems. He also investigates the effects of anthropogenic pressures and climate change on coastal ecosystems through mesocosm experiments and field studies, using classical and innovative molecular approaches to support environmental monitoring, conservation, and restoration actions.
