Laboratories

Within the MarBioLab, our research group operates three fully equipped laboratories supporting experimental and analytical research in marine science.

Marine Biology and Ecology Laboratory

The Marine Biology and Ecology Laboratory is dedicated to the study of macrofauna and meiofauna, using stereomicroscopes and compound light microscopes for taxonomic and ecological analyses. The laboratory is also equipped with centrifuges, an analytical balance, a spectrophotometer, and a fluorometer for the quantification of organic matter components, including proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and chlorophyll, enabling functional and trophic assessments of marine ecosystems.

Molecular Biology Laboratory

The Molecular Biology Laboratory supports genetic and genomic analyses and includes two laminar flow hoods for sterile procedures, thermocyclers, Real-Time PCR systems, and a TapeStation platform for nucleic acid quantification and quality control.

Microbial Ecology Laboratory

The Microbial and Molecular Ecology Laboratory focuses on microbial and viral ecology in marine sediments and water. It is equipped with an autoclave for sterilization of solutions and instruments, a pH meter, a water bath station, two fluorescence microscopes for the visualization and enumeration of bacteria and viruses, two laminar flow hoods, a chemical fume hood, and a wide range of chemical reagents for microbiological and biogeochemical analyses.

Together, these facilities enable the integration of ecological, biochemical, and molecular approaches in the study of marine ecosystems.
